In an interview with PRODU, Lucas Figueroa, founder of Madrid-based production company Mr. Monkey, discusses the company’s innovative approach to intellectual property (IP) creation and its ventures into the metaverse. Mr. Monkey operates as a boutique IP studio, collaborating with major platforms like Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, Amazon, and Paramount+. While licensing their content, they retain ownership of approximately 90% of their IPs, selling only about 10% as originals.

Figueroa highlights Mr. Monkey Cinemas, their experimental chain of cinemas in the metaverse. Currently, these virtual spaces host meetings and content showcases, with plans to project films simultaneously in physical theaters and the metaverse. This initiative aims to explore new avenues in virtual reality and augmented reality technologies.

Additionally, Figueroa introduces the documentary series Osel, premiering on HBO Max. The series narrates the extraordinary story of a Spanish child recognized in 1986 as the reincarnation of a Tibetan Buddhist master, who later transitioned from monastic life to the vibrant nightlife of Ibiza. The first season comprises four episodes, with a second season already in development.

Through these projects, Mr. Monkey continues to push the boundaries of storytelling and content distribution in the evolving digital landscape.
